So I’ve done Blogs on collecting, art and cosplay! But I’ve done nothing on my favorite part of the Sherlock verse yet, and that’s the fan-fiction! I love reading fan stories! My favorite stories, all come from a stack of Postcards! These Postcards are stories of John and Sherlock, posted by my friend mydogwatson! She’s brilliant! Why are they called Postcards? I’ll let mydogwatson tell you and then I’ll share some of her favorites!

– – –

Sherlock Fans: How long have you been writing Sherlock stories, and when were you first introduced to the series?

mydogwatson: I wrote a few Sherlock Holmes stories years ago, just for myself. With this show, I started writing between season one and season two. I watched the first episode the night it aired in the USA and was in love immediately.

Memento Vivere: The Root to All Grief

In Chapter Two of Memento Vivere, a young Mycroft Holmes must deal with his mother’s illness, along with a father that’s never there. As always, amazing writing by mydogwatson, never a disappointment! Mycroft art by ladynlmda who can be found on deviantart!

Enjoy a teaser below and read the full chapter at The Root to All Grief!

Unusually, later that week, Father was in for dinner.

Nanny warned him, so Mycroft had donned a proper jacket and tie. Most evenings now, he sat alone at the table or invited Mr. Hall to join him, but the tutor seemed to feel that only once a week was it acceptable for them to dine together. Any more than that was, apparently, inappropriate. Other evenings, Mycroft just took a tray in his room with Nanny. That good woman sometimes seemed to be [prematurely] in a state of bereavement. All she lacked was the black crape.

Of course, they never talked about it either.

Father was already at the table when Mycroft walked in. A glass of whiskey sat in front of him. “Sir,” Mycroft said, before taking his seat.

“Mr. Hall reports that you are excelling in your studies,” Father said. “That speaks well of your future success when you go to school.”

Mycroft preferred to never think about the subject of going away to school. Going to a country of which he had no memory, having sailed away from it when he was less than six months of age. He did not speak until the young Sikh man whose name he had never actually learned had served their meal and slipped away again. “Mr. Hall is not tedious as a tutor,” he said then.

Teri never goes to an event without the boys, so look for these two in attendants! Little Sherlock and John returning to Baker Street Station.

Memento Vivere

Now living in Honeycomb Cottage, Watson writes as Sherlock tends to his Bees. Another amazing story by mydogwatson! I know I need to post more of these, and I really need to take the time to read more! Art above by Amanda Tolleson on DeviantArt!

A teaser…

A man might play many roles in his lifetime, especially if, like me, he is fortunate enough to enter his sixth decade.

I have been a soldier. A surgeon. Companion and helpmate to the world’s only consulting detective. Lastly, but by no means least [I flatter myself to think] I have been a storyteller.

Of course, the great British public knows well the little tales of my many adventures with Sherlock Holmes as related in the pages of the Strand magazine and latterly in book form by George Newnes. Indeed, surprising to me [and more so Holmes] the popularity of these stories has expanded even beyond the shores of this sceptre’d isle to be known in much of the literate world.

But now that we both have withdrawn to a much quieter existence, there is one more tale to be told.

I write these words sitting in our cottage in Sussex. Of course, everyone knows that Holmes retired [rather prematurely in many minds] when the charms of crime-solving had begun to pall. That was due, he still insists, to a sad lack of creative, intelligent criminals and rather than duel with lesser examples, he was determined to tend bees and perhaps write the definitive study on the science of deduction. [As a side note, I mention that whilst the bees are flourishing, that great volume remains only a vague notion.]

In The Silence Between

It’s the tale of Sherlock’s life, beautifully told, while including his violin! My friend mydogwatson does it once again, she never disappoints!

As always we have a teaser…

John Watson was also a man who had dreadful nightmares.

The first few times it happened, Sherlock was at a total loss as to what he should do. A proud man like John Watson would hardly want to be seen in such a situation. But at the same time, it did not seem right to just ignore the sounds coming from the upstairs bedroom. The tortured moans. The whimpers. The banging of a fist against the wall.

It had taken an embarrassingly long time for Sherlock to have an idea about how to help, although once he did, it seemed painfully obvious. He picked up his violin and briefly thought about what to play. Something Grandmama had once said came back to him.

“The most comforting and peaceful music ever composed, my lovely boy, isVenus The Bringer of Peace. Its exquisite tranquillity has the power to soothe my soul.”

Sherlock was not concerned at all by the matter of souls, but if there was anyone who deserved exquisite tranquillity, it was John Watson. So on nightmare nights, it was always the Holst that he played.

Sometimes when he played, it would just go quiet upstairs and he assumed that John had fallen back to sleep. Other nights John would get out of bed and pad barefooted into the sitting room, curl up in his chair and just listen to the music.

They never talked about it.

Sherlock liked to think that they didn’t need words. That the music was enough.

Anywhen…

Life has been incredibly busy for me, and I know you’ve heard this before, so I won’t bore you… Today though I made myself a cuppa of tea, and read mydogwatson‘s latest story: Anywhen! It’s a happy ending to a chain of stories, as John and Sherlock finish their little dance! I especially love the connection between the Victorian Holmes and Watson! Of course, I’ll tell no more than that, you’ll have to read for yourself!

A Gentleman’s Gratitude

Sherlock considers Watson’s feelings while sending his accusing brother some warmth! Enjoy this next segment by mydogwatson! [Fielets you may have missed: Two Gentlemen Sharing & A Game For Gentlemen] Art by Fayeren, another talented fan!

A teaser as always…

My over-bearing brother occasionally accuses me of taking John Watson for granted.

I could argue the point but probably will not trouble myself to do so. On one occasion when Mycroft expressed that particular opinion, Watson overheard his words and replied mildly, “If a man cannot take his most intimate friend for granted sometimes, then perhaps their bond is not as strong as it should be.”

A Game For Gentlemen

holmes_by_andycwhite-d9vkua9

Life is perfect between the Detective and his Doctor as they find humor and yet another case. By nightfall, the mystery is solved and the two share a private moment together. A Game For Gentlemen is part of a continuation from last year’s December Fielets, by mydogwatson! Above art by Andy White on deviantart. [Fielets you may have missed: Two Gentlemen Sharing]

A little teaser as always…

We had long since finished breakfast and were both indulging rather lazily in a third cup of tea whilst reading through the morning papers [myself the Times and Holmes, sadly, the notorious Pall Mall Gazette.] He claims that all the gossip in a scandalous paper like that is worth more to him than the reasoned thoughtfulness to be found in a respectable publication such as the Times. I have given up the battle on that particular front.

Despite that long-running journalistic stand-off, all was contentment within 221B. Billy had done stalwart fireplace duty earlier, so the room was pleasantly warm and very cozy on what was a blustery chill day beyond our walls.

I cannot speak for Holmes, of course, but for myself, that contentment was not unrelated to our to our activities of the previous night.

What we had experienced was so special that it can barely be spoken of. The words do not exist, at least within my poor lexicon to describe the tenderness, the sweet devotion that Holmes and I had shared within our bedroom. The heat of passion is one thing and not to be dismissed. But our mood during those hours was of a different nature. Each touch was a blessing. Each kiss an act of devotion. When we came to our completions, in harmony, the very act of love became a sacrament.

I suppose those words would, in the eyes of many, condemn me to a fiery eternity, but to anyone who believed in that sort of thing, I was already doomed. That was a possible fate I would be willing to accept if I still believed.

As we ate our eggs, toast, and ham, then continued to linger over too much tea and our newspapers, we still exuded a sense of mutual peace that was entirely pleasant.

Enjoy the full story at A Game For Gentlemen and please share your thoughts with my talented friend mydogwatson.

Two Gentlemen Sharing

sh2jw

Two Gentlemen Sharing, is a continuation of last year’s December Fielets, by mydogwatson! A year has passed but the love and passion between these two heroes remain just as strong, Sherlock’s on a case, while Watson whom could not join him this time, sits at home worried about his companion. Art by sh2jw on Tumblr & Twitter!

A Teaser…

There is something about a lowering afternoon in December when the darkness is creeping inexorably cross the city, that brings on a thoughtful, not to say melancholy, mood. I cannot help but give a snort of derision at my own maudlin musing, knowing all too well what my friend Holmes would have said at the sentiment.

Immediately I felt a twinge of guilt at the thought, which smacked of disloyalty.

Despite the way I portray Holmes in my scribblings, no one knows better than I that he is not the unfeeling machine so often described in the pages of the Strand. Still, it suits us both to have that myth believed by the general populous.

That is true, especially in the past year.

Life moved along so quickly that I was a bit startled to realise that it was indeed almost a full year since Holmes and I had become…what was the word Holmes had uttered during our momentous dinner at Simpson’s? Ah, yes, inamoratos was the word I sought.

Billy had been up a short time ago to tend the fireplace, so there was warmth in the room, as well as a comforting glow that almost banished the gloom from beyond the windows. It was usually a pleasure to sit in my armchair, snifter and pipe in hand, the muffled sounds of carriages passing below on Baker Street mingling pleasantly with the crackle of the fire. But on this afternoon, I could not really relax into the usual sense of comfort.

Holmes was out, tracking down a petty thief, one who was thought to have information concerning a recent spate of brutal killings in Southwark. I should have been along, would have been along, but instead had kept my word to an old friend from my days at Bart’s and left home early to take his morning surgery. By the time I returned to Baker Street, Holmes was in the wind.

As usual, it chafed at me, not being at his side whilst he prowled the meanest streets in London on the trail of a killer. It chafed as well to be sitting here with the fire and the brandy and my favourite shag in the pipe, whilst Holmes could have stumbled into six kinds of trouble. He has a knack for it, my consulting detective.

But for now, all I could do was sit and watch the fire and wait for the gloom to lift while thinking of my inamorato.

And there I go being poetic again.
